First the moving...

This is my moving crew and the stairs that we had to carry everything up to store my stuff in my boss' basement. Diane is so nice to let me store my stuff at her place. In the above picture: Collin is on the left, Jared Clark and his mustache are in the center, and Pablo joining us from Mexico City is on the right. The move went pretty well considering that we were moving. I rented a van from U-haul. Jared and Collin loaded it. Pablo and I did some packing and over seeing.

The thing about moving crews is that they get real hungry and you have to feed them. So we went to Burger King. Nothing but the best for my crew. Please take notice that Jared is eating a triple whopper and he "king" sized his value meal. It was just enough to fill his belly, which is huge.

Best thing about moving: Getting it done.

Lamest thing about moving: A one hundred and fifteen dollar parking ticket.

Now for the shaking...

So every year about this time there is a giant Halloween stake dance party. Which is always a lot of fun. This year I went dressed up as dad (Navy pilot). This is what I look like dressed up as dad.

Here is my friend Collin in his costume curious as ever:

And here is Collin showing respect for the military:

Collin use to be in the Marines. That why he salutes real good.
I also made a costume for my friend Brigham.

The picture credit goes to brig. I showed him how to trace the pattern and then he cut it out and I sewed it up. Using the left over fabric brig made that amazing head piece. The tail snaps on with a ring snap. That way if anyone steps on it, the tail will detach not rip. With the tail detached brig can use it to beat the person that stepped on it.

Brig's girlfriend was Tinkerbell so he was the crocodile. Isn't that cute. I just love the full-frontal zip-up one piece Halloween costumes. It reminds me of last Halloween. This was brig and I last year.

That was my Shaun the Sheep costume that I made last year. Here is a picture of my inspiration.

In review: Moving 2007 and Halloween 2007 (as shown in the above digital photos) was a complete success.

I've been busy...

I've had a lot going on lately.
I'm moving on tomorrow.
Moving in the city is hard.
Here is something that I've been working on learning on illustrator

As a graphic designer, what do you think Eric?

That is my friend Venessa Van Zijll. Sometimes she works as a model. She sent me this picture from one of her recent shoots. It is my goal to learn something new on illustrator every day and so I decided to learn how to do traces and out lines and stuff like that. For my first one I think it turned out okay. Here is a picture of what the original looked like.

Here is a great little exercise to do to see what candidate you should vote for. Just take this little test.

Here is how mine turned out.

Well, the Pinarello is finally done. It's taken me about a year to finish it, but well worth the wait. It started when I found a frame in need of some major TLC. I had it sand blasted, powercoated a stunning blue, and put it together using old parts from ebay. I was even lucky enough to find a pair of super cool Campy Record Delta brakes ( big deal). One of my friends has a print shop, and was able to make brand new decals to top everything off. The frame itself is 20+ years old, as well as 3/4 of the parts that I used to assemble the bicycle. The stem and handlebars are from dads old Trek bike that he bought in Livermore. Even the pink bar tape is from the 80's. All Italian stuff, not one thing from Mexico, sorry Jeff. Still rides like it's brand new!

Every few months I get international visitors from our friends down south. Way south. Like across the US border south. It's the Wal-Mart Mexico buyers and fit techs! I do not speak their Mexican Language, but I understand their Mexican passion for fashion. It's a fiesta of a time whenever they come. Here we are sorting out a fit for a shirt they ordered last season. The lady with the blonde ponytail is my boss Diane. At the end of the table is Sumithra. Sumithra is from India and handles our production. Sumithra is always asking me to do stuff and asking me questions. At first I resisted but then thought, what the heck I'll try to make her job easier... and things have been great ever since. The rest of the people in the picture are from Wal-Mart Mexico.

Here Diane and Consuelo are doing a live fitting on the new mysterious fit tech from Mexico. I don't know much about the Mexican culture but I think the new mysterious fit tech is a real heart-breaker in Mexico City were she lives. There is something about her that congers up thoughts of soft fabrics and bright colors. I guess that's what makes her so mysterious.

It's a love/hate relationship whenever Wal-Mart Mexico comes to town. It great because they are Mexican... but it's also a bummer because it means I'll have a lot of work to do. On my other accounts I just assist Diane. Wal-Mart Mexico is a Jeff solo mission. The quantities are low... but the number of styles is high. For example, a normal Wal-Mart order that Diane and I work on averages around three styles with six color ways each and about a million pieces ordered per season. Wal-Mart Mexico is almost 100,000 pieces but 21 styles! Do the math... Mexico+21 styles+Jeff-Diane=A lot of work for Jeff.

A large task when dealing with Wal-Mart Mexico is coming up with print color ways. Above is a print that I submitted for WWM approval. The color direction WMM responded with was "it's too sad and depressing". Please note that "sad and depressing" are not color corrections but how some people respond to "how's life"? Useful color corrections are "we want more bright colors". Perhaps something got lost in the translation. So I turned around and send them....

THIS!!!

Which they loved and ordered. No Joke... they ordered this. People in Mexico will be wearing this. I told you... it's a fiesta all the time down there with these people. It's part of their culture. So if you are ever walking around Mexico and are blinded by the prints and think, "who made that" the answer could very well be your brother.

Last night I went and saw "Blade Runner the final cut" at the Ziegfled Theater. It's one of the top 50 dystopian movies of all time. I remember dad saying that he really liked this movie. He was right! It's pretty amazing. Very intense though. Not for the children. I won't give away any spoilers but the end sequence is a symbolic overload in a way that only a dystopian movie made in the early 80's could be.

Another great thing about going and seeing this movie was the people watching. Blade Runner has a cult following. The average viewer spends at least 1/2 of their free time reading comic books and the another 1/4 collecting comic books. That leaves them with only 1/4 of the their free time to find chicks. That is dedication.

Small side note... Last year I went and saw Gone With the Wind staring Clark Gable at the Ziegfeld. I told Grandma Randall and she told me some funny and interesting stories. First was that when coming back from Germany after WWII Grandpa Blackham had a long layover in NYC. During his stay here he went and saw the Ziegfeld Follies. I'm pretty sure it would have been at this theater. It's an interesting thought for me to think about Grandpa Blackham in his early twenties walking around mid-town New York around 1946 killing time before he hopped on a train for Utah. The second story Grandma told me was that the first time she saw Gone With The Wind she got scared half way through and got up and left the theater. She did not watch it until 30 years later when she got it on VHS. She loves it now though.

Comments on the top 50 dystopian movies of all time. I counted and I have seen 26 of the ranked and 3 of the mentioned movies on the list. Some of my favorite would include Death Race 2000, Thx1138, Escape from New York, Brazil, and Omega Man. Again... none of these movies are for the kids.

Hello? Can anyone hear me? How does this thing work? Now I know how Ashley feels, always confused. Maybe it was the marathon, after all, the brain is a muscle too. Why did we do that again? Still wondering if Eric recovered yet. Peace out, or whatever the kids say these days.

It was a year ago today that I was taking my boards. So crazy! I was morning sick and scared TO DEATH! Eric waited outside in the hall (no one can wait in the waiting room, what's the point?!). You all know how crazy I am about being alone so he waited for me. Luckily I got the minimum of 75 questions and was out of there in 45 minutes. Good times!

Today was a great success. It all started at work were I took digital photos of dresses like this one:

Did you guys watch conference? Do you remember the young women's choir from Springville and Mapleton? Well I know for a fact that some of those girls shop at Wal-Mart because I made some of the shirts that they were wearing.

After work I was super excited because I was meeting my friends at my favorite taco place.

They have the best southeast Mexican food you have ever had. For example just look at this taco!

It's El Pastor style. (That's broiled pork with pineapple). And look at this pork tamale!

This is what it looks like when it comes out to play wearing my favorite red salsa . Amazing right?
After tacos I went home and I can honestly say I played the best game of scrabble of my entire scrabble career against Collin. My fourth word was "Antennae" (which I just realized that I flipped the last two letters). You'll notice that it's not just on one triple word score but two triple word scores. Plus I got a bingo for using all seven tiles. A bingo is an extra 50pts. Add it all together and it gave me a total of 122 points. Next I laid down 'Czar'. After that I played 'quits' making 'Czars' with the 's'. I played the word 'ulva' (an eatable seaweed), 'lyric', 'snatch'. In the end I had 371 points. Basically I should probably never play scrabble again.

I fully endorse this blog. I now have an excuse to get a digital camera. I shall do so with much haste.

So here is our blog. I think it would be really great if we could keep each other updated on the latest. Tim and I just ran the marathon this last weekend, good times. We are both basically crippled for the rest of our lives but it's cool. I wish I could add pictures but our computer is struggling lately. Put your pictures on though. I want to see New York and Kids and everything. Hope to hear from you guys soon.
